Do Not Be Ashamed of Your Fine Hair

Written by

Fine hair can be difficult but the key to any great hairstyle is knowing what you are working with. You must then take what you have and make the most of it. Most people get density and texture mixed up. Density is how many hairs you have and texture is the thickness and curl pattern of each individual hair. That being said. Fine hair is hair that may be very dense (meaning there is a lot of it) but each individual hair is smaller, making your hair look thin.

There are so many women out there that have a depressing outlook when it comes to their fine hair. They consider it to be a burden and just want to do whatever they can with it, claiming that they have never had a cut that works for them. They just expect that no one will have the skills or time to make their hair look beautiful. It is understandable for people who have had fine, thin hair their whole life. It is very discouraging to feel that your hair will never come close to that beautiful, thick, voluminous look, when your hair is such a huge part of your identity. But do not be ashamed of your fine hair, embrace it.

Every hair type from thick and coarse, to thin and fine, has its own unique pluses and minuses and subsequently its own unique needs. The diameter of your hair ranges, from 17 to 180 microns, which gives substance to the huge differences we find every day between our hair and the people that we encounter. What we do not realize is that there is a love/hate relationship between most people and their own hair. If you have fine-textured hair, at some point in your life, you have hated your hair. Fine hair tends to fall flat halfway through the day, overall it lacks body and won’t hold a style, and it is more easily damaged than those coarser hair types. The good thing is, fine-textured hair is usually velvety, smooth, and soft. And it takes a fraction of the time to blow dry. But finding the balance between velvety and flat can be challenging. If you have fine hair you have probably spent considerable time and money trying to discover the best techniques, styles, products and strategies to manage your feather-lite hair. We all know that fine hair needs a little TLC to keep it looking healthy, voluminous and beautiful.

There is just one hair trick that we would like to share; if you get nothing more out of this and if you hate your fine hair, you need to start at the roots to build volume and love your hair again. If you have never tried this, DO IT. First, shampoo your hair with volumizing shampoo, then rinse clean like normal. Next, condition your entire head for the roots to the ends with volumizing conditioner. Before you rinse the conditioner out, squeeze a bit of shampoo into your hands, then add a little water and work it into a lather. Work the lather into just your scalp, then rinse the shampoo and conditioner out. Blow dry and style like normal. We are telling you that with no other changes made to your hair routine, you will go from nearly no volume at the roots and crown to major volume.

So, stay positive with the knowledge that where there is a will there is a way. You should not be discouraged by your fine hair, embrace it and you will find a way to make your hair look thicker and fuller. Just remember to start at the roots. The roots or your hair is the foundation to build a beautiful style that you will absolutely love…
