How Can You Have the Best Salon Experience?

Written by

Having a trusted hairdresser who can pick you up when you are down is critical. A good hair stylist has the power to instantly transform your mood; making you feel prettier and more confident. And getting pampered by a professional that is passionate about their craft always increases those positive feelings.

So, how can you have the best salon experience? Well, we cannot emphasize enough the importance of a good consultation with your stylist. This is the time that you should share with your stylist your biggest hair challenges, what you do not like to see and what it is that you want. The more specific you can get the better off your stylist will be and pictures speak a thousand words. Your stylist will be able to match your desires with your needs and steer you in the right direction.

You should talk about the shampoos, conditioners and styling aids you use on a daily basis. It is very important for us to know how much time you have to spend on your hair and your level of styling ability. It is VERY important to be absolutely honest when you explain any chemical services that you have had, no matter if it was over a year and a half prior. If your hair is below your shoulders then it still has those chemicals effecting the ends of your hair. This is invaluable if you will be receiving a chemical service. A demi or semi permanent DOES NOT wash completely out of your hair. So it is important to mention them as well. And henna is a metallic color and can wreak havoc on most every other chemical service. So to avoid negative outcomes from henna on the hair, let your stylist know right away.

You should always ask your stylist questions, especially if you are meeting them for the first time. You will also feel more comfortable with the stylist if you ask a lot of questions. Make sure that you feel like you are both on the same page before you start. Communication is the key to a great consultation, so tell them like it is. At Salon F, clients many times come in and just want the stylist to do whatever we want because they trust our expertise. We love this but, we always like to know what you do NOT want so we can both avoid that. This is where we want to start. Ninety percent of the time you can trace an unsatisfying service back to the consultation. If you do not express your desires and needs then they may not match what the stylist thinks suits you. Your stylist should be able to read-between-the-lines and get to the true meaning of your descriptions, but just in case, communicate well and make sure you are both on the same page.

You should always go to a passionate and experienced hairstylist. Hairdressing is an art form and a very practiced trade. Like any other craft, it requires upgrading, hands-on experience and training to perfect. There are some new stylists who do amazing work and there are also stylists who have been doing hair for decades who never quite get to the advanced levels and are really in the same place they were when they left beauty school. If you are lucky enough to find a stylist who is passionate about their craft and continues to invest in their education, you will  have found a lifelong hairdresser. It comes down to training and experience. A passionate stylist will help you find the perfect style that works for you, your lifestyle and your hair type. They will give you a color that is healthy and shiny, enhances your skin tone and keeps your hair healthy.

Hair evolution is also very important. You never want to get stuck in a rut, your hair must evolve. A passionate stylist will constantly be offering you tips and advice on how to treat and keep your hair beautiful and healthy. If hair is in optimal health it will style faster, easier and be frizz free and healthy enough to do any color change and other re-texturing services with ease. A good hair stylist will keep this a top priority.. If you are visiting the stylist for the first time, then give them a chance to make you happy. It takes around three visits for a stylist to really get to know you and your hair. If you are always unhappy with your hair but are always jumping from salon to salon, you aren’t giving the stylist or your hair the proper chance to have a great relationship…

Sometimes what might seem disastrous to you, really is not and can be easily fixed. Your stylist is a skilled professional and though you might think your hair is beaten up, we probably have a way to make it better. It might just be a quick fix of your color with a clarifier or gloss, or just the way you are styling it and not the cut that is the issue. Being a hairdresser is the best job in the world. A passionate stylist considers their clientele to be friends. There is no better job than to be hanging out with your friends all day and making them feel good about themselves…
